What's the problem?

The pill reminder market is booming but failing its most vulnerable users.
With the market valued at $3.1-4.5 billion in 2024 and projected 7-8% annual growth, products span from $5 basic organizers to $100/month smart dispensers - yet approximately 50% of elderly patients still fail to take medications as prescribed.

Market Research & Problem Define

I conducted a competitive analysis and identified key problems found in competitor products. Then, I listed as many problems and solutions as possible and began connecting the dots to match them, while also considering development challenges.

Current health products pose significant barriers to medication adherence, whether through complicated interfaces that challenge older users or boring designs that fail to attract younger users.
Our research revealed a gap in the market for an inclusive and engaging solution that could adapt to diverse user needs.

Design & Test

After doing two user tests with my Protopie prototype, I also looked up health app design standards. Even though Linda doesn't like apps that look too medical, I added 3D models to make it more fun to use.

Results & Impact

This is one of my most rewarding projects as a UX/UI designer.

Looking back… I noticed some insights about both myself as a designer and things I would refine if I were to do this project again.

  • This project a is a great opportunity to learn UI design industry standards and UX research best practices. I also significantly improved my communication skills by engaging in heuristic evaluations and user interviews with other designers, now I could gather feedback and iterate effectively.

  • If I could go back, I would better manage my time and extend the project timeline for deeper user testing and lamp development.

  • Most importantly, I realized how much I love working at both software and hardware. This project confirmed my passion for starting from user research and concept development, diving into industry and technical knowledge, and iterating through as many user tests as possible - all the way to launch and continuous improvement.
